Production of Cathode rays.

  1. Apparatus Composition.

      Take a discharge tube. It is fitted with two metal electrodes. it is also attached to a vacuum pump to reduce pressure.

  2.Process.

           Electric current cannot pass through the discharge at ordinary pressure. Electric current only passes from the discharge tube. when the pressure in the tube is low and high voltage is applied. 

 3.Production.

      cathode rays pass when the pressure in the tube is about 0.001 torr and the voltage is about 5000 to 10000 is applied then some rays emit from the discharge tube. These rays are called cathode rays.
